I really need someone to help me diagnose my poor b2's problem. I think it might be bearings in the manual tranny, but anyway the problem is this: there is a knocking noise coming from the tranny that stops only when the car is in neutral with the clutch in. When accelerating in gears 1, 2, or 3 there is bad vibration around 2000 rpm. the truck is an 89 4x4 with only 68000 miles on it, but it has been used to tow a boat for several years and i know the clutch needs to be replaced here shortly. I need to know what might be wrong and how to go about fixing it. all advice is greatly appreatiated.
I've got my '87 up on jack stands right now to remove the tranny for the same problem. I've got a broken gear or syncro as it will hang up if I try to drive it at all.
I suspect you've got the same problem. Get thee to to a tranny shop.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Jan-02 AT 08:01 PM (EST)]I would say think about getting a new tranny. I just lost the syncos in mine this morning while I was out plowing. Those Jap. built trannies are junk why ford didn't make their own I would love to know!!
Sounds like a bad thrust bearing inside the tranny. Take it to a reputable shop for service VERY soon. rebuilding a manual tranny is much cheaper than an auto. If you can remove it yourself you will save a great deal of money as that's where the real cost of a pro hits your pocket. if putting in a new clutch at the same time, I hear
Center Force II is a real good unit. Go with stock disc and trowout brng. Good luck
