Drip rails
Drip rails
Drip rails have never really bothered me. But I have to do some roof welding on my B2 and the things are in the way. I am about ready to just shave them off but was wondering first, what is the point of drip rails anyways? If I shave them off am I going to lose any kind of support. I know they don't put them on anymore but why did they use them in the first place?
Drip rails
Drip rails are just that, rails to catch drip. Up to the 40's or so cars didn't have rubber weatherstripping on the top of the doors. So all that kept out the rain was that rail that caught the water as it rolled off the roof and directed it away from the doors. They helped to keep you nice and dry inside. On newer cars they figured out ways to not have to use the rails by sealing the doors a little differently. I've seen drip rails removed on custom cars, but realize they are always one of those "custom" modifications you see in Street Rodder or Rod and Custom. The drip rail on the Bronco II is an area where a couple of pieces of metal meet. I'm not sure if they can just be grinded off, you may have some custom body work ahead of you. But a BII w/o it's drip rails may look kinda cool.
