I was I see this white sports-looking car, and some flashing lights, but no Crown Vic. Instead, it's a Camaro! I couldn't believe it, but as I drove past I saw the big "Highway Patrol" letters on the side. I was pretty surprised. Also, a city near me is now using Dodge Intrepids in their fleet of cruisers.
Good thing they don't make Pacers anymore, or they'd be using them! sheesh
Up near Mil1ion's neck of the woods they had those early-90's mustang coupes for a while, in Alberta. But they mostly use Impalas and Crown Vics around here.
Hard to shove a 6'-5" 350 Lb. beligerent drunk in the back of a Camaro.
the colorado highway patrol has been using camaro Z28's for many years now.
a couple other citys: vail- saab 9000 turbos, in the '90s the frisco police dept had a bunch of taurus SHO's
just about everyone else uses crown vics.
The Colorado SP is also using at least one Expedition. Even all decked out its hard to tell its the fuzz until after you whiz past. So many Expys out here have ski/bike/kayak racks on them it makes the CHP Expy a great stealth vehicle.
They give AZ DPS cars all of the time to test the heat. I have seen the following used by the DPS
1. Bronco (Marked)
2. F-250 4X4 (Marked)
3. Taurus SHO (Marked and Unmarked)
4. Mustang (Marked and Unmarked)
5. Thunderbird SC (Blew by me doing 100+ once) (Marked I think, Bright Lights)
6. Comero (Marked and Unmarked)
7. LTD (Marked and Unmarked)
8. Impala (Unmarked)
9. Intrepid (Unmarked)
10. F-150 (Marked and Unmarked)
Wow, I think the AZ DPS takes the cake. Quite a bit of variety.
I don't think the HIghway Patrol does too much arresting, do they? Isn't it mostly just ticketing? Like Ringo said, it's gotta be hard to arrest and stuff people into a backseat of a two-door sports car.
I've also seen local police using jap crotch rockets for their motorcycles - while they're sure fast... I just like seeing them on the Harley's... it just looks... right.
I read a while back that Vail isn't going to get their "freebie" Saabs any more. Just think of how hard that will be for those yuppies to drive an American made police car!
NC has the
camaro's(black marked, white marked, and white unmarked)
intrepids(marked and unmarked)
durangos(marked, mostly state boys)
Suburbans(marked, mostly town cops)
Crown Vics every where(marked and unmarked)
Impala's(marked and unmarked)
saw what looked like a blazer or a jimmy the other day it was flying by me so i couldn't make out what it was
and thats about all i can think of that i've seen
Up here in Canada the RCMP still uses Camaro's and retired the 5.0L. My Dad and brother are RCMP officers and have taken the high speed training. They like the handling of the Mustangs but the Camaros have the speed. I would think a highway patrol Vette would look pretty sweet, as long as it's not coming after me1
I never knew people live so close to where I do. I live in Pleasanton. Couple of month ago, was goin to visit realtives in S.J. and I saw a white camaro patrol car. What color was the one you saw on Vasco?
I do realize that the Beamer bikes the local police use are certainly better for the task, but it just doesn't seem like it fits right. I guess I'm just too used to seeing them on those classic beasts. Is it really that hard to catch someone when you're on a Harley, anyway? I mean, they can still out-accelerate most cars, can't they?
Auburn has your standard crown vics a durango, and a dodge pickup. They did have a Bronco but I saw it again with all the lites and stuff off. Back home there's a unmarked late model mustang for the punk ricers.
