engine help

i have a 2.9 that i threw a rod in. i am trying to find out what other motors will bolt up to my stock 5 speed tranny in a 88 ranger 4WD

I think a 4.0L will go in without problems.

Why'd it throw a rod? Run it low on oil?

why i threw a rod

it did not really "throw" a rod one of the rod bolts broke and the other pulled out of the side of the rod. of course i had it turned up pretty high when it locked up. does anybody know where i can find info to support the facts on whether the 2.9 intake will bolt upp to the 4.0 block and if the tranny i have will work with a 4.0

If you want to put a 4.0 in, you'll have to get the complete engine: intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, computer, wiring harness, etc. The motor mounts and transmission bellhousing are the same for the 4.0 and 2.0, so the 4.0 fits into the same space as the 2.9 pretty easily.
