Howdy. ive just bought a 87 aerostar cargo for my daily/winter driver.
it leaks a little power steering fluid so i picked some up to keep it topped up.
the only one they had included ford vehicles with M2C-128D specifications. sooo being the only one there i asumed the aerostar was included. but its a different color... can anyone tell me if or what the spec is for a 87 ford aerostar?
thanks!
im not sure if what your asking is what type of power steering fluid your vehicle requires but. Ford reccomends using type F transmission fluid for your power steering.
Type F is specifically designed for all pre-1977 Ford vehicles and some makes between 1977 and 1981. i have an 87. im trying to figure out what the heck is in there in the first place. i found a bottle of auto tranny MERCON fluid. im assuming thats what the last guy used? but since mercon and type-f arent interchangable im kinda worried
well if i had an owners manual i wouldnt have to post on a forum...
ive confirmed what the last guy has been using for a long time.. MERCON..
and im not about to flush it sooo... mercon it is!
In my '87 I always used regular power steering fluid. For my '95, the power steering pump manufacturer recommends Type F, owner's manual says premium power steering fluid, shop manual says use Mercon. I went with the pump manufacturer's recommendation. There are also guys using synthetic ATF.
