what did i do wrong? I'm rebuilding a 352 engine and for some reason the oil pump shaft is too short. the new and old shaft are both too short. did i buy the wrong oil pump?
I've never heard of different shaft lengths in FE engines. I've always been under the impression that "one size fits all". Something is wrong. What part number is the new pump? How did you find out that it was too short?
Did you drop the pump shaft into the motor from the top side and the ring is holding it up? The shaft need to be installed from the bottom of the motor, then the pump.
the new pump looks exactly like the old one. the new shaft is from arp and is the same length as the old one. i believe now that i've installed the shaft wrong due to the reply from Mike G. i did drop it in from the top thinking that the ring on the shaft was there to hold it up so the distributor could slide over it. this weekend when i go home from college i'll try to install the shaft according to Mike G. thank you all for the info.
are you sure its too short, or the wrong diameter, i ran into this in my 352. bought an FT oil pump by mistake, had to get a shaft machined by a guy in town, but it works fine, had me goin' for a while though
