I have a popping soind on take off in my '87 BII. I think it is probably the CV joints on the rear driveshaft. Anyone know of a good way to positively test the CV joints?
First off you don't have any CV joints in your rear axel because its a solid axle. It could be your wheel bering's our a u-joint going out but im not exacly sure.
The CV joints are on the rear driveshaft (From the transfer case to the differential). And, in case anyone is wondering, they are CV joints and not the usual U-joints that one finds on the driveline.
Hello,
with the driveshaft removed try with you hands to move the CV joint like this: with one hand move foward the CV part that attach to t-case and with the other hand move in the opposite side the driveshaft side of the CV joint. I don´t know if i are explain it well, the CV should be with no play or movement.
i hope this help!
