When I worked 12 AM to 8, the day shift would come in and then go out for coffee. I would go with them. The waitress would take our orders. I would say "Bring me a Coors". That was always good for a laugh.

I guess I'm a freak, or not a true night shift kinda guy. I cant drink when I get off work in the morning. I can get up in the afternoon and drink....no problems there...but not after a night of work. Its okay, I've always been a freak.

We night people are a.....little different. When I was forced to work days after 20 years of nights, I was not a happy camper.

I imagine not......I'm not too thrilled......I've been on nights for a little over a month I think. It isnt supposed to work this way. Week of days, week of nights...... But I am the most schedule flexible guy here......So I let everyone have what they want. This month.......October.....I raided the day shifts.....I'm the senior moron here..... My home life suffers a good deal when working nights. I've gone a week straight this past month without seeing my wife. Causes some serious communication problems.
So now I have my way for a little bit......then I'll be here too much, and want some nights again. Its sounds kinda wishy washy.......but its the best way to have this job....swinging shifts.
Too long on nights, without some day shifts.....you get a little too far out of the loop.

What was hard was when I went from nights to days, trying to get my sleep schedule switched around... Some people get a little mad when they see a big truck goin down the road with the driver sleeping

I have a hard time getting to sleep working nights. There are times I just wont sleep for a few days...then just drop exausted. My record so far is 96 hours awake. I dont wanna do that again. I do much better working days. No one around on nights...so no one to entertain or keep awy from.....but you loose that interaction with people. Start to feel like a leper or something.
I'm off again Tuesday......even after month or more of nights......come sunset....I'll bhe ready to crash out. But then....I leave here in the a.m. and go do farm work. Supposed to this morning.....but I think not. If rains like they say......I sure wont be.

Working 4 to midnight is not like I remember it from years ago. I used to get a lot done back then. Now it seems like when I get up...I have to go back to work.

That would be nice. We run 24/7, 8 hour shifts. I just realized that in the last year I have taken 2 vacation days and zero holidays. But I have 4 weeks of vacation on the books.

Gotta be careful with all that vacation. A few years ago...a supervisor had 3 months vacation. He had 6 months use it up. They forced him to take it.....over that 6 months he became way out of the loop and slowed down to a fault. As soon as his 6 months of vacation time expired...and all his vacation was burned up......he was burned, cause his position expired. Poor guy.....good man......got screwed.
Not that 4 weeks is anything like 3 months. I'm just babblin away.
