92 Explorer knocking noise

92 Explorer knocking noise
I have a 92 Ford Explorer 4.0 with a 5 speed std.transmission with O/D. The other day I was sitting in my driveway with the engine running and the shifter was in first gear. My foot slipped off the clutch and of course the car lurched forward and died. I started the truck and backed out to the street and took off down the road. I noticed the truck now has a knocking noise. I thought it sounded like a rod but as I was going along I turned off the motor and could still hear the noise. When the truck is sitting still with the motor running there is no noise but it starts knocking as I take off and the knocking increases with an increase in vehicle speed. The truck stills runs fine as it did before the noise began and I haven't noticed anything different other than the noise. What could it be? I am really stumped and could use any help I can get.The truck has about 160k miles on it.

Have you checked your universal joints in the rear drive shaft? If you had a weak one, the sudden lurch (shock load) may have sent it over the edge. If it's not a U-Joint, I'd look at all of the other drive line components for play.
