hello fellow aerostar freaks. im having a serious problem with my dome lioght switch in the rear liftgate i need some help on. i need to figure out either how to repair the switch in the liftgate latch or just bypass the switch to disable it alltogether.my question is if i just cut power running to the switch will thaty stop my door ajar and dome light from coming on or do i need to cut the wire and ground it to the chassis. also i have a new tip for 94 3.0 owners. ifd your power steering stars to leak dont replace the pump until you check the lines first. i made that mistake and found out after 7+ hours of work that it was an unused sensor plug right before the brass line goes into the rack and pinion. it was a .002 mill fix. fill the entire thing full of solder and was done with it. and is there anything i can do to get some more torqe from this engine. like an exuast or somthing similar. i would really like some more low end grunt from this beast. thank you for any help you can give me. please. i need to be able to put my dome lights back in. i have to keep them out becuase they keep flashing onm and off like stobes when i drive.
The switch to shut them off is hooked to the latch. There is a little pin that is pressed in when you shut the liftgate. The one in my wife's was busted off so I when to the wrecking yard and got a new one.
Also check to see if the hatch is loose or misaligned, this happened to me. The light would come on and off and it was driving me crazy, It turned out to be the bolts on the latch were loose and the door was misaligned.
I have had flickering dome lamp problems due to the hatch latch switch. First time it was dried-out lube holding the switch plunger in. Flushed it clean with brake cleaner & relubed & it was good for 6 months again. I then adjusted the rubber stops that the hatch closes against (the body gaps were not even, either).
Recently the lamp started flickering again. Although I just pulled all the bulbs out of the lamps as a temporary fix, the shorter days this time of year forced me to do a proper fix. Cleaning and relubing didn't help this time. I replaced the latch on Tuesday ($53 Canadian plus the government's share) & no longer have a problem. The hatch no longer has any rattle/play to it when closed, either.
The switch is less than $17, but my local dealer did not have one in stock.
If you pull the interior panel, there is a wire harness going through a hole toward the latch. This harness is for the latch switch. In my 95 Aero, there is a relay somewhere above the jack that clicks when the latch switch cycles. For a quick fix, it MAY be possible to reach up from the jack cubby and unplug that relay.
well, i finally got it fixed, yeaahh. it turned out to be that one of the star headed bolts holding the latch on the liftgate were just a little loose. alowwing the latch mechanisim to have a few millimeters of play front to back. this was cuasing the problem. i only discovered this when i took the whole latch apart and put it back together, before i took it apart i cuold move the hooks back and forth a little, when i put it all back, i tightened it down till i couldnt and it stoped completly. so if your having this problem try loosening those bolts then tightening them down. especialy if your latch is getting gumed up and not working unless you slam it shut, this may cuase the bolts to jump a thread and loosen. and one othert thing. dont bother trying to unplug the relay above the jack cubby. its been glued together. it doesnt come apart. and you have to crease your interior panels trying to get to it. peace love and chicken grease yall. im out
