I think thats what I saw it on. Did anyone see that episode where the guys at OCC build a chopper out of a lawnmower engine? What kind of mower was that out of. I am probably gonna try to build a bike out of an old mower engine that I will modify and an old mountain bike. I am open to power ideas and would that use a tranny or could I set it up to use the existing gears? Please reply! Thanks, Its getting late, I have more questions, but they will have to wait for tomorrow. Thanks
It was a "dixie chopper", the engine they used was a 25hp Kohler Commander V-twin. I'd personally go for a briggs 25 or 30.... THey are easy to beef up to 40hp or so...
Pfogle... do you remember what the carburetor they used was designed as? It was something really unique... Aargh, I can't remember... they had a few pretty funny things on that bike...
I've actually got a 3 hp Briggs on an edger my f-i-l found that I'm gonna use to build a chopper. Belt drive and all.
You think those fights are staged? Cuz sometimes those mature gentlemen really are that cold and brazen and grumpy. They are father-and-son, mind you.
You guys see the one where they build the Statue of Liberty and had it copper plated? The carb on that one was the torch, and they even made it light up,
How much you figger those carbs from DaVinci cost? I mean , come on, it a CNC machined chunk of aluminum cast around a stock carb...
Ok, well, since I'm not getting the engine out of a riding mower? How would I get the linkage to work right? This thing is old, and as far as I can tell, it only has 2 speeds, running, and off. How would I get the linkage to get it so once i let off the accelerator, it it will still run? Thanks. Also, what did they do about tranny on that thing?
There should be a plate that the throttle hooks to, it is attached to the governor (which can be unhooked at your own risk). They used the 4 pump mounting holes and a HD belt drive primary case with a baker,or some other aftermarket motorcylce trans....
Actually ,I think they mentioned that they had several thousand man hours in the carb on the fire bike alone, so I don't think it is just machined CNC. I believe it is just a test bed for their research and development department. Staged fights ??? HEll, all you have to do is work with family-- I really doubt they had to stage many of them. The dixie chopper bike was one of my favorites as well- I was kind of skeptical when they mentioned it would be made form lawnmower parts. Then again the average lawnmower has advanced 100 times what your average harley mower has.
