Am I the only one who thinks that Orange County Choppers is about the lamest show on tv?I mean, dont get me wrong, the bikes are awesome.I especially like the one that paid tribute to firefighters, and the widowmaker. But everytime I watch that show, its either Paul Sr yelling at Paul Jr,or some other stupid event that is not even relevant to building custom bikes.I wish they would can all the crap, and just stick with building bikes!
Every show needs an edge to keep people glued to the show.
It's a like collision, people HAVE TO have a look while others will get out of their car/truck
to watch nothing.
I cant see anybody tuning in just to find out,Does Paul Sr do more work than Paul Jr,or will Paul Jr finally win the arguement and get his dad to shut up.Tune in next week when Paul Sr yells,HEY WHO ATE MY DOUGHNUTS!They seem to be more worried about the lame stuff than the cool stuff, like,we decided to make the rake on this bike 40deg because,,,or things relevant to bike building.
Most people can't realize that it is a scripted show for the most part. Is what I laugh at ever more is they say that without the discovery channel OCC wouldn't be squat, even though they have been big noise, and well respected in the custom motorcycle world for years.
Scripted?Your kidding me,you mean these guy actually rehearse that junk? You gotta be pullin my leg.Man,if they would just stick to the bike building, like the new lazer cutting tool they have, that show would actually be interesting!
I think the theme bikes are lame. Seems like all they make their are the gas tanks, everything else is ordered or sent out. I've seen the show about a dozen times, I can't say what was differant about any of them. I'm done with all those shows.
I did like the Carroll Shelby bike. IMO the best bike they ever made. The petty yelling between SR. and JR. gets a bit old. You want to whack them in the head and tell them to put down the pocketbooks and get back to work.
The best part of the two Carroll Shelby episodes was when they moved to thier new shop and beat the crap out of the Expedition while driving through the old office with it. Must be nice to have a $35k vehicle and trash it by driving it through buildings. It was funny as heck though.
The Shelby bike did include a bunch of fabrication. The tank was to represent a cobra head ready to strike. The rear fender looked like a mustang fastback with the spoiler. They supercharged the engine and took it to the dyno and blew the motor. The bike was to represent the GT 500E super snake.
The personel content aside, look how much they actually fabricate not much at ALL! just as killerklown said. If you got to waste an hour of your time then watch it, otherwise there certainly far better things to do.
Seems that the run of shows on these days is a "reality" type build-it or make-over show that really show you nothing on technique or skills invloved in doing what is shown. Some folks call it "entertainment" but to me, the only entertaining show is Mythbusters. At leas with that show you can learn something. Now I see The Speed Channel has a reality bike building show along with a vehicle make-over show. How many bike building shows do we need with a deadline?
The Learning Channel used to be a good channel but almost all the shows on it are make-over shows.
Thank the Lord for the Science, Discovery Times, Military, History, and National Geographic channels.
i was at the local ford dealer when big paul came in, yah if you know what i mean. so i've met you. looked at the bike he rode in on told him i'd keep my old 1961 pan head and my hotroded sportie. as to watching the show i'd rather put on history or ngc. even spend the time here on fte
I used to enjoy that show, back when it was about building bikes, and no that wasn't boring at all. Theres so much arguing on that show now I wouldn't be suprised if the bike don't just fall apart going down the road. If I wanted to watch a bunch of mechanics argue I could have stayed at work.
They've been fabricating a lot more stuff on their own lately... I work 10 minutes from their shop.. I got a look at the plans for a bike they're going to make for the air force... Really cool... The frame is done, it's going to have a 300 tire on it.. along with a 50 degree rake... pretty neat.. It's gonna resemble a Jet with the tank looking like a cockpit... And the long pointy thing off the front fender.... Looks like it'll be about 12 feet long when it's all finished... I'll try to get down there to get a pic of the frame, probably won't be until they get back from Daytona though...
Locally though, the quality of the bikes is for the most part pretty good... no more comebacks than any other custom bike shop(there are several in the area)...
