Fast Idle
I recently purchased an 88 Bronco II 4x4 to use as a winter driver and backup transportation to allow me to get into some more complicated projects on my vette.
I have had the Bronco less than a week and can already tell I am going to enjoy it. The body is fairly solid on it at 130k and V6 and 5 speed trans seem to do ok, although I do miss the V8 rumble.
The only thing that really bugs me about it is that it idles well above 1400 rpm. I picked up a Haynes manual for the truck and didnt seem to have any luck finding anything regarding idle speed and fuel injection.
If any of you wouldnt mind making a couple of suggestions, I would definately appreciate it.

I did some looking and found a screw that looked like it controled the idle speed and backed it down. It idles at about 900 now, but kind of rough. I bought some plugs, leads, cap and rotor today, so I will try to give it a little tune up tomorrow. My investigation also revealed a vacuum hose unplugged from somewhere with a screw stuck in the end. I am guessing that may have something to do with it also.
The guy I bought it from said he had the heads rebuilt on it about a year ago, so I haven't ruled out your suggestion yet either. It may be possible that the top end wasn't put back together correctly. I still need to do some digging around in there.
Thanks for your help,
Ron
after warming up too the normal 800-900. i took it too ford to se if their was a problem and they ran all the tests and said nothing was wrong and that the fast idle like i have works like a choke on a carb.

Thanks for the input, that was my thought also, but even after it warms up (20 mins on the highway) it didn't drop down at all. I was able to idle it down some with a screw on the throttle linkage, but now it seems to idle like crap. I have a tune up kit for it that I had hoped to get to today, but it seems the rest of the world exists to keep me out of the garage when I most want to be there. I will drive it to work this week and get to know it a little better then put the plugs/leads/rotor/cap on next weekend.
By the way, any tips on that last plug on the passenger side head? Looks like pretty hairy with that AC box back there.
Thanks,
Ron

Doing spark plugs on a BII (or Aerostar) is as easy as pie if you do most of them through the wheel well opening. Jack up the vehicle until the wheel droops down and you have easy access to the plug. If you have a body lift kit you can reach in and remove the plug wire, no sweat!
