I've got a question regarding the bed on my 88 F-150 4x4 regular cab. The bed is listing to one side a little bit. Maybe 1/2" or less. It looks like its consistent from front to back. One guy told me that it could be the cab but I checked with a level and it is the bed. I've noticed other pickups around both Fords and Chevys but mostly Fords. Has anyone experienced this and do you have any solutions?
Sometimes when people load these truck, they overload the bed. This causes the cross rail on the bed to bend down slightly. You can simply add shims to the area where the bed is down. Remove the bolts (6 with torx 55) and shim up the area that is depressed.
I have just placed them above the frame rail, I used alignment shims, as you can just slid them in, with out having to remove the bolts all the way out, other wise you could use washers.
Dave, Thanks again for the response. I took a look yesterday afternoon and noticed that there were what apparently shims or some kind of rubbery sheeting material that had worked its way free. Perhaps there had been more layers of that and a few had fallen out. Could that have been something the factory puts in there to act as a kind of shock absorber? Perhaps they just shim them all the make the beds level to begin with. Looks like an easy fix though.
