I got a 1986 2wd 302. Fuel injection F150
I got to change the front breaks plus put new rotors on.
My question is, does anyone know what size is the bolt on the calipers to open them up or is it a allen key or what?
This will be my first time on this truck so I need all the help I can get!!!
thanks

What do you mean to open them up? To take the calipers off, you just need a hammer and a big honking screwdriver or punch. The calipers are held in with two big punch out pins. Each pin is basically two pieces of angled metal with rubber between them. You hit the front side and they slide out the back It will take you longer to get the wheels off than to change the pads.
As for pushing the calipers back to make room for the new pads, I use a big giant C-clamp. I think it is 6 or 8 inches I forgot which. Just slowly turn the clamp to tighten it and push the caliper back. Go slow so the fluid has time to go back to the reservoir.
If you are asking what size the bleed screw is on the caliper, I would have to go look since I am not sure. Probably 1/4 or 5/16 but you should have to bleed it unless the caliper is stubborn and won't backfeed. Mine always go fine without bleeding and you really don't want to risk getting any air in there.
Don't forget about that bolt that holds those pins in (extra safety thingy) it takes i think a 1/2" wrench, also use the old pad to push the piston back into the caliper so as not to wreck the surface of the picton.

Uh Oh, I have done a couple of these and I don't recall any extra safety bolt. Was there a recall on these where they were supposed to add these? My 86 doesn't have one and I just did a freind's 84 and it didn't have one either.
I did a 2000 Ford car a couple weeks ago and that was held in with Star Bolts but all these old 80s trucks I have done only had pins.
I wonder if I took it to a dealer if they would just laugh if I tried to get a saftey recall item fixed on a 18 year old truck.
The newer trucks (87 and up) have a rubber spring type thing with 2 pieces of metal on either side (and there is 2 per caliper), but the older trucks (80-86) have a spring that clamps on to a pinthat holds the caliper in place, then on the bottom of the caliper there is an extra bolt (almost like a screw) that is there that acts as a safety so that sping doens't pop out, it probably never will so that is probably why there isn't one there, but if your truck is like mine then someone could have swaped in a newer set of i-beams so they could better adjust the camber/caster.
