Ok im new here i gotta chance to buy a 1985 F150 130,000 miles and auto ac still works and i belive its a straight six. they only want 1000$ for it does it sound like its worth it.
IMO:
I would be more concerned about the motor, trans, etc. rather than the body. At 130,000 miles, the 300 I-6 is probably a little on the weak side. It's true that those motors can go for quite awhile, but it all depends on how it's been treated. If you can, pull the spark plugs to see if they are covered in oil, or carbon for that matter. Check the oil to see if it's old or if it's clean. If you can, check the compression in all cylinders to see if you might be buying someone else's headache or not.
I bought a 1990 fullsize Blazer with 140,000 miles on the clock and ignored all of these tips and it cost me more $$ than I could ever have gotten out of it. In short, if this is THE truck for you and you have enough money to bring it back from the dead, buy it. If not, look for something with fewer miles.
Just my $.02 Good luck!
ok sorry about this being the worng forum and all. but anyway the body is actually pretty decent other than like small little dents here and there from like pebbles and such. i have driven it it still has alot of kick to it and i was wrong it is a 5.0 v8. engine im not really worrid about that much but i know that motor like the back of my hand. However the tranny what is it. is it all mechanical or is it one of those computer controled trannys those give out like crazy.
My guess is that is has an AOD tranny. They're not a bad tranny, and also they're not electronicaly controled either. However they can be troublesome if not taken care of. I think if you could get the truck for around $800 i would go for it.
