z'd frames. pros and cons?

for those who have done this, would you do it again or go with ifs? especially if money is an object.

i ran a search but did not find much on z-ing frames. how well would this work on a 54 f-100 chassis? i saw a couple of pics(thanks rey) but would like to find out more on this subject. seems like a low cost alternative to drop the truck.

54,

Frame Z'ing is normally done on straight frames (frames with no kickup over the rear axle) like under a model 'A' or 'T'. If you Z'ed a 54 truck frame you would have to elevate the bed floor. I don't think you want to do that...

54effie, funny you mention that, I have pics of a online pal's truck with a z'd frame up front, but he was using a camaro front end, he had alot of clearance problems, mainly the bottom rear of his front fenders bottoming out, looked really cool, but there were drawbacks, and he can't bag it because the ride is at full height! I've got pics If your interested.

I have researched every angle on this topic, as I am assuming alot of people on the board have, if I were to do it again, don't get me wrong, I love my volare front end, but I would go with a camaro clip just because of the airbag factor and $$ factor, I won't get into the MII option (they don't do it for me), and cause I like to putting Chevy parts on a Ford .

Out back, you can get away with a mini C-Notch (without cutting too much out of the frame), but personally screw the bed, a nice sized 8-10 inch c-notch will require you to move the bed floor up, but will lower your rear end like no other. There is a guy on the board that has a 53 ford that lays the entire body on the ground, can’t remember his name, I am assuming you may want to go that low, but it give you an idea of what the maximums are. Good luck
