Does anyone use STP any more? I can remember back in the 1960's and 70's everone was talking about STP, but I did not like the looks of it because it was so tick and gummy I just could see what it would do.
All STP ever did as far as I know was to raise viscosity of the oil, which of course would help with low oil pressure in an old worn engine.. High viscosity oil is not recommend for the new modular engines. If I did have an older engine that was using oil I would just go to 20/50 and be sure to let it warm up before driving. High viscosity oils have been known to blow off oil filters on modular engines when revved cold.. Just an FYI. and MHO..

Yeah, my 95 Tbird with 4.6 mod had 110 psi oil pressure when cold! I'm surprised the filter never blew with 5w-30! Ran about 70 psi hot at idle...
STP is garbage - neighbor used it in an old truck, when the engine finally went he took it apart and found a tar-like substance on EVERYTHING. Instead of cleaning it he bought a different engine...

You said a mounth full there, that is way I was always affaird to use it. For once I did something right and I am glad I stayed away from it.
A MSDS for STP (part number 65148) would give the flash point. If I remember correctly, you can get the MSDS online at www.STP.com.
I have always understood that if one uses a quality motor oil, STP has no worth and may even be detremental. I have heard several persons who say it builds up a tar substance thorughout an engine. The hotter the engine runs, the heavier the build-up.
Good Stuff.......I used to put it in the Fairmont. I never changed the oil.....just replenished what I leaked and burned with STP. Figured it broke down about as fast as I put it in.
Worked great....I'm sure the motor siezing had nothin to do with the oil.
I remember as a kid riding my bike to the Esso gas station and getting STP stickers to put on the bike. To this day I swear it would go faster with the sticker, so the stuff must be good!
