How bad is it to lower the front of my '72 by cutting 1 coil from my springs. Will it adversely affect my handling, tire wear? The up side is that it will cost nothing.
Yeah. The twin I beam suspension doesn't hold the camber level when the springs compress/extend. When you hit a bump the inner half of the tire is all that is on the pavement. That's okay here and there but if you shorten the springs very much then that will be a permanent situation. It will look a little goofy too with the tires leaned in at the top.
Short arm/long arm suspensions solve that problem, so you could try to convert it to something like that through the aftermarket or a junkyard clip. Or you could buy new I beams that are designed to drop your suspension and keep your camber correct. They're available but a little pricey. Search for old threads on the subject.
If that's the look you want and you want better handling, don't let anybody discourage you from doing it. A sway bar might help the handling even more than lowering . . .
