I'm thinking about building a 331. Anyone have any experience they want to share. I hear the wrist pin is close to the ring lands on 347, not as bad with a 331. My concern is oil consumption.
Oil consumption is a thing of the past, go with a up to date kit and your good.
www.enginekits.com has the best prices. ebay has some pretty good deals on scat cranks.
If you have time and interest, save yourself some trouble and just slap a 351w shortblock in there. However, I think it would be cool to tell someone, I got a 331 or 347, huh, whats that? later
going to the 347 is more popular so there is more available. like jwtaylor said don't worry about oil consumption so much. a lot of people here like the 351 swap but i'm a fan of building what it came with. i've seen kits and cranks at summit racing.
What is this motor going into will decide what your able to do with out spending some serious coin. i to feel the 351w is a better choice, stronger motor, lots of build up options and does more with less ya know. it was meant for a truck
Thanks for the replys(keep them coming).
I have a 66 Mustang Coupe(my 16 year olds). And thinking about building a Factory Five Racing Cobra kit car. I want to use an older style motor so I can beat the smog game in Ca. I know about the 351W, but the taller deck hieght may create some space problems.
well if this is going into a car for racing the 331 is a great option. ive heard its a better road racing motor because it revs so much better and produces more manageable power then the 347 which is more suited for drags. I would also suggest you make that motor efi. there are alot of kits out there and it will improve drive ablility and performance. you can also go with a T5 or tremec behind that as well.
Won't be racing much, just having a little fun. I just sold an offroad buggy with a turbo / Subaru. It had Motec EFI, power/drivability was great. Tring to expense down as much as possible. Figure I can set a carb up now, and EFI down the road.
