Anyone know what other years a 1987 Aerostar automatic transmission will fit?
Reason being I wrecked my 1987 3.0 and since the engine and A/T were rebuilt less than a year ago I'd like to get another van to keep me busy!!
LAST EDITED ON 27-Jan-01 AT 00:33 AM (EST)[p]All Areostars use the A4LD Auto transmission. I'm not shure if yours is a direct replacement for a newer one. I assume you want to put the old one in a newer van.
One thing that is different is the speedo connection. The older vans get the speedodometer off of the trannie and others newer vans get the speedo off the rear differential. I think that if you have the old trannie with the speedo connection and a new van whith the rear end connection it should work.
I wouldnt bother with the swap unless yoy find a new van with a busted trannie for cheap.
i swapped the auto in my 91 from an 88, basically a piece of cake for a tranny swap, speedo matched. ain't like the old days, now when they say to change fluids in them they mean it...
mine had a 130k on her when i did it, still got it, my wife luvs it, and it looks really good (patched sum panels in it)only true wear spot is drivers seat starting to show
