I have been broken into twice thanks to Ford's ingenious design. Each time it has cost me about $500 in repairs. I was told by my Allstate adjuster that the Expy's are one of the most broken in vehicles and that the insurance industry is looking into lobbying against Ford to change the design for more security due to high #'s of claims.
I agree that any car in the world can have the glass smashed, but I'm talking about <removed by Moderator>.
Yes, it is an 03. I had my 02 broken into and my 03 broken into. Im my opinion, there was less damage on the 03 than the 02, however, that could have been the skill of the scum that did it. But to answer your question, yes, the 03 is still very vulnerable, I know first hand.
There are many ways to break a side window that would be quicker and probably make much less noise than prying a doorhandle. I knew some guys in highschool that specialized in this kind of crap....thankfully most of them are now behind bars.
Bottom line, if somebody wants into your vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter, they'll find an easy way in. I've given up on elaborate stereos and other electronics just for this reason. Don't make your vehicle a target and they won't mess with it.
My 98 Expy was broken into in my own driveway. Needless to say, the young punk who did it smashed my drivers side rear window out with a decorate rock which had been removed from our landscaped lawn. What struck me as odd was when they had opened the rear door, the factory alarm didn't go off. The following morning when the police arrived, a special officer had to called in due to the obvious greasy fingerprints all over the windows and door panels (Mind you this was early in the morning when the morning dew was still out). The officer asked me if the alarm was on, I told him yes. He asked me to lock the doors via the remote. He proceeded to open the door via the broken windows entry way and again, the alarm didn't go off. He also was an expy owner and found it odd as well. Is this a known flaw, a fluke, or is this what Monsta was referring to. The funny thing is I'm from the South side of Chicago (Yes, I'm an African American) and I had a Jeep Wrangler w/soft top. I used to leave it outside for weeks at a time without the top on or even the doors and NEVER had any vandalism or theft issues (Throughout Chicago as a whole). I sold the Jeep and bought the Expy and no issues neither. After I move down to Nashville, TN in the SUBURBS, my truck gets broken into the 1st month. -$60 for the replacement window off EBAY (I installed it), a new radio -$100 (I was seriously thinking about tradint it in and didn't want to install anything remotely nice again), -$900 for the DVD player, TV, MP3/Radio, CD Changer. My MP3's that were stolen from the front door that I hadn't backed up to the PC which was underneath the rear seat (which they didn't find) priceless...

My wife’s is bone stock and someone tried to break into the rear window on the passenger side of the truck while on vacation in San Diego. I only noticed when I was cleaning that there was a pry mark and scratched on the pillar. Asked the wife if the alarm went off when we were in the hotel and she said it did. I slept through it and she did not wake me or my little friend. I have a Viper alarm and if it did not go off, I would have been flying back to AZ and the Expy would be in Mexico now.
My parents Jeep was stolen in front of their business at noon. If they want it they will take it.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. The Expy doesn't have a factory alarm. All it has is an anti-theft mechanism in the ignition to keep the bad guys from hotwiring it. The remote merely locks/unlocks the doors and has a panic button on it.
Both my friend and I have 97 expy's his was broken into twice, the crooks jimmied the door and never broke any glass(real pros). He installed a viper and he has never had a problem since. I bought my expy after my friend bought his and I immediatley had an alarm system installed and I have yet to have any thieves try to break into it. If you buy an aftermarket system you need to adjust the shock sensitivty so that if they are trying to pry a window it will give a warning chirp before it actually will go off. I have my alarm set to go off if it gets bumped. Good luck to all in keeping their valuables safe and remember if you don't make it a target it won't get messed with.
