stroker kit feedback?

has any one used the 400 to 434 stroker kit available at strokerkits.com ? i was wondering how good the clearance was and also how good of performance you got out of it. Right now in my '79 F100 i have a 400 bored .030, with nice cam, weiand intake, 4brl edelbrock carb., headers, accel dist., 8mm plug wires, stall converter, and recently put a new set of stainless valves, springs, locks and retainers. i'm looking for some more power and think that this or another strokerkit is what i need. i could use any feedback or suggestions you have. thanks.

That kit uses an offset ground 400 crank, SCAT H beam rods for a SB chebby, and a TRW forged piston for a 351M. I don't consider that to be a performance stroker. It is fine for an RV application.

There are no other stroker kit avaiable for a 400, but there are some recipies which use a 240 I6 rod and a 351C piston. These are a little better.

My preference for a stroker for a 400 motor would start with a Windsor 4.25" stroke forged Eagle or SCAT crank, a set of custom rods, and lightweight forged pistons from a SB chebby or Ford Windsor.

Would the 351W crank drop right in or would there be machine work invovled. Maybe i should just look work on the compression ratio, maybe add some badger pistons. Is there anybody that sell better piston rods? I'm looking to get street/strip hipo out of this motor.

The 351W stroker crank with 3.000 mains will fit with minor work on the timing chain. The downside is that that crank uses SBC connecting rod pins. There is no SBC compatible rod long enough to give you zero deck clearance with any low CH piston. You would have to get custom rods made at about $1400.00. With these rods you could select the length and pin diameter to match any piston you wanted.

This is fairly expensive way to get more power, but the forged crank is necessary if you are building a race motor.

If you are building a hot street motor, go with the badger pistons or the new hypereutectic pistons from Tim Myers. You can get more power by improving the head flow. You can port the heads that you have or go to aftermarket heads for improved head flow.

Watch the compression ratio, if you get above 9.5:1, you may need a more agressive cam than you have now.

To me it would seem simpler just to drop in a 460.
