Anyone ever tried fitting the trip computer(overhead model) off an 1986 3.0 Aerostar to a 94 4.0? Anyone have a schematic or wiring diagram for the '86 Trip Computer?
The electronic dash off the "94 model does have all the same functions as the '86 trip computer.
Are the '94 electronic(digital) dash and the '94 analog dash interchangeable(same plug-ins)?
I tried fitting a trip minder from an earlier Aerostar with digital electronics to one with analog gauges. Even though the input sensors from the various areas (fuel sending unit & speed sensor) are analog driven, the trip minder does not accept the data correctly. It works, but the data is not correct. For example, the recorded speed seems to be off by a factor of 10. It reads 1,2,3 mph instead of 10, 20, 30 mph. The fuel economy however, was outstanding, recording 99 mpg at an average speed of 3 mph.
I temporarily spliced into existing wiring, since the correct connector(s) are not found on non-digital wiring harnesses. In doing so, the dreaded anti-lock gremlins were disturbed and announced their presence by lighting up both the red and yellow warning lights. Needless to say, it all came back out and everything is back to normal.
Bottom line: There must be an additional data chip within the digital dash panel that feeds converted data to the trip minder.

Just went through this exerecise....got all the wires hooked up except for one. The EEC input (fuel flow)....aero if you could tell me where you found that wire I would be grateful.....
