2 1991 aerostar problems

1. The interior lights do not shut off, even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is out of the ignition. The only way I don't kill the battery is to either pull out the bulbs (wich makes for some interesting night time driving with kids) or to pull out the fuse.

2.All of the electrical doorlocks don't work (you have to manually lock and unlock them) except for the driver's door.

Can anyone please give me some advice or tips on how to solve these problems.

Thank you.

Vehicle: 1991 Ford aerostar, automatic transmission, 120xxx kms.

Welcome!

The interior lights do not shut off, even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is out of the ignition. The only way I don't kill the battery is to either pull out the bulbs (wich makes for some interesting night time driving with kids) or to pull out the fuse.

First I would check the condition of the contacts on the slidding door jam and door. Common problem for them to corrode and loose contact. Also if the door is mis-aliagned, it will cause the same light problem.

2.All of the electrical doorlocks don't work (you have to manually lock and unlock them) except for the driver's door.

Does the drivers power window switch work to open/shut the passenger window? If not, I would check the wire condition in the gromet connecting the door to the frame. If so, it could be that the actual actuators are toast, I have had to replace them numeruos times in Tauri.

This may be a dumb question, but did you check the light switch? If you turn the light switch all the way to the left until it clicks, the lights would go on until you turn it off.

1. Interior lights: Check that large roller switch to the left of the steering column that adjusts the intensity of the dash lights. It also serves as a manual way to turn on the interior lights when it is rolled all the way up. Often it gets bumped with a knee when entering/exiting the vehicle and stays in the 'ON' position.

2. Door locks: Not certain about this problem but I would first check the switches on the driver side door. You can jumper the switches with a piece of wire to see if the problem is in the switch itself, or elsewhere in the wiring circuit. This is a fuse protected circuit so you may want to check for a blown fuse. If memory serves, this is a shared circuit so if you are experiencing other electrical problems, the real problem may not be with the power locks but with the component sharing the circuit.

Post back with your findings. I'm not an electrical wizard but several others on this forum are masters of arcane electrical problems.

the switch that controlls is all the way off. The driver side door can operate both windows and both front door locks. and the passenger door lock can unlock the driver side door but it can not operate the passenger door. How do you jumper the switch? do you know what fuse it is and what other things are on the same fuse? I will also give the contacts on the sliding door a check to see if there is any corrosion and to see if the alignment is aligned. I will let you know what happens.

Thank you.
