I disconnected mine and I hope it doesn't hurt something else. I did have a few of my plastic clasps on the plastic break but at least it dosent ding anymore.
That's the seatbelt chime this is the key in the switch chime and it is forever on. The mod works great destroys nothing and harms nothing. It is like unpluging an appliance, it just turns off.
2004 model. It is just the wire that makes the chime ring when a key is in the ignition. When you turn the key to start the vehicle it still chimes 3 or 4 times as normal when the seatbelt and abs light flashes and everything else works good. The only two settings it affected were the key in ignition and the key slightly turned to hear the radio. The chime still works for everything else. If need be I can plug it back up also. The only step he didn't show was taking the red peice of the plug off to remove the individual wire from the plug group. Takes ten minutes and harms nothing. The only true "mod" i wanted on my new vehicle. I prefer just to reprogram but that was not an option for this. Now at the carwash or park I can hear music with the doors open without the chime or key turned enough for the a/c to be on.
On a previous car I was able to isolate the wire going into the chime. I wired it through a small toggle switch that I mounted behind the cover to the fuse panel. I may attempt this again on the truck.
I have a 2004 Supercrew and succesfully disconnected the chime. That thing drove me nuts. I pulled off the lower shroud around the steering column (one screw) and removed the lower dash panel in order to pull the lower shroud out. The shroud is not easy to pull loose because it actually has a flange that sticks into the steering wheel. I found the wire coming off of the ignition switch that was hot when the key was inserted. There are about seven wires, some are big. This wire is small and it is one of three small wires, third one up from the bottom. it is brown(dark) with a stripe, but anyway take a test light or multi meter and check. I removed and inlsulated the wire, with shrink tube so that I can reconnect if needed. I have not had any problems with anything else not working and it has been 7 days. I assume the feature that won't allow you to lock your keys in your truck will not work anymore. I have keypad entry so I don't care.
followed your instructions worked like a charm, as one other stated you do need to remove the red clip thing and look inside the connector with test light probe to release small clip that wholes the wire in place in the connector. This can be done fellows just take your time studying each move.
Im glad the fix is working for you guys also, Its been a month now since I disabled the chime will no ill side effects. I for one am way happy camper with my new truck.
Don't Know If This Will Work Or Not But I Had A 93 Chevrolet And All The Chimes Came From A Small Module Plugged Into The Fuse Box. When I Removed The Module It Had About Six Or Seven Plugs On It. I Found The One For The Door Chime And Just Bent It Over So It Would Not Engage When Plugged In. This Eliminated The Door Chime But All Other Chimes Still Worked Fine.
I Seriously Doubt It Could Be This Easy Again, But Its Worth A Try.
After reading the post I went out and did mine in 10 minuts in the parking lot at work, I wish I would have disconnected this before. The only problem is it is hard to get the steering wheel covers back on.
