Timing my ignition system, what kind of iginition system would an 80 F100 302 have? Is it breaker point? Need to know if dwell has to be adjusted before timing.
I think the timing scale has been removed or broken off. I can't find anything that looks like a timing scale. Maybe i just don't know what i'm looking for, never seen a timing scale on a ford so don't know what they look like. I don't see any marks either though.
There probably is not a scale if it is original. Timing is 10 degrees btdc. Looking at the front of the engine(as you are standing in front of the truck) look on the left side of the balancer. You should see a pointer, just a metal tab at about the 10 oclock position. With the engine started and timing light on, all you will see on the balancer is a single line. This is the factory timing mark. You can buy aftermarket tapes to stick on the balancer if you want. If this doesn't help let me know. You may have to look at the balancer with the engine not running and clean the timing mark off, as it is just a groove in the balancer. It is not colored or anything and often times is covered in road gunk and impossible to see.
yeah i was afraid that was the setup. I saw the pointer, and I see a large groove in the balancer, but they are no where near each other when it's running...damn
