I would air your tires up to 80 when towing.

You should NEVER use 4x4 when on dry pavement. You will damage expensive drivetrain parts that way.

Be sure to have your rear wheels inflated to 80 pounds when towing. Make sure that you check them when you not driven the vehicle such as in the morning when it's cooler outside. Whatever you do don't tow on pavement with your 4 wheel drive on, as posted above it will tear up your front end.

The 80lbs on the tire is the maximum the tire can be inflated to. It is not what the pressure should be. That is on the door sticker. When towing you can add a few lbs to the number on the door, but to run the maximum pressurewill just give you a lousy ride and wear out the tires quicker.

Granted mine is a F250 but the door says 50 for the front and 80 for the back.

Air pressure is usually different for Tow or NoTow. Check the manual and or the door sticker.

My 94 F250 4x4 says to run with something like 50F/60R not towing and with something like 90F/90R towing. Naturally do not exceed the tire max rating in anycase. My current tires are rated 80PSI so when I tow my 8,000# trailer I go 80F/80R. (BTW F=Front, R=Rear). When I get home I drop it to about 60/60.

I highly recommend not going with the tow pressure unless you tow. It will wear the tire centers and you will have a noticably rougher ride with maybe more suspension wear and tear.

Don't use 4x4 unless the road is slippery(Ice, snow, mud, dirt etc). The tires have to be able to slip a little in turns or you will burn out parts in the differential, lotso moola.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Your truck will ride like a Conastoga wagon if you air your tires up to 80 PSI when not hauling/towing. I know. I tried it once. 60 PSI unloaded and 80 PSI loaded works great for me.........
