Question Brake Control Problem

I recently had a Drawtite Activator II brake controller installed on my '04 Ford 250 SD. When I plug my Adams Trailer into the plug assembly, the trailer brakes are receiving a constant 12 volts which, of course, will not allow the trailer to move. The trailer brake lights, parking lights, and turn signals work properly.

The problem appears to be coming from the controller, but I do not have the wiring diagram to try and troubleshoot.

Any help would be apprciated!

Could it be that your truck plug and your trailer plug are not wired the same and the trailer brakes are getting a constant positive from the battery charge wire on the truck plug?

Thanks for joining us at FTE!

I agree with SoCalDesertRider. Check this LINK to see the correct way the pins in the plugs should be wired. Then get an inexpensive voltage meter, multi-meter or even a test light. Put one lead of the tester on the pins and ground the other one. Check each pin to confirm it's wired to the correct source. Run your blinkers, operate your lights, pump the pedal etc... whichever action is needed to get voltage on the pin. When you test the brake pin, make sure you manually activate the controller, besides stepping on the pedal.

Once you find which pins have their wires switched you can pull it through the mounting hole and switch the wires on the pins.

Of course if all the pins test correctly on the truck, you should repeat the same test on the trailer plug pins with a 12v power source.

Red -

If the installer went by wire color and not DrawTite's instructions, your controller is probably wired wrong.
