What I have found to work (and I have read of same method here or elsewhere).
I have two very small crow-bars or pry-bars that are about 8 inches long that I purchased from Ace Hardware (mine are blue).
Remove connector.
Remove two mounting fasteners.
Use Channel Locks to rotate the EGR valve so that the valve mounting tabs are just to clear of the manifold mounting pads (where you removed the fasteners).
Now use your two minature pry-bars at the same time to lift the EGR valve up and out of the manifold with the pry-bars between the mounting pad and the valve tabs.
Trying to pull the EGR with the Channel Locks is very difficult and will probably leave 'marks' on the EGR valve. Prying up is smooth and easy with the appropriate tools.
After 2 tanks of fuel my (hand calculated) mileage has gone up by a full 1.0 MPG driving the same as normal. I like the power and response much better since the plug fell off. No lag when gettiing on it on the expressway to change-lanes pass someone.
If i were to disconnect mine.. would i get any dumby light right away and how long would it be on? when would it go off if i were to leave it unplugged?
cool.. i'm gonna try it today when i leave work to head home.. it will be mixed driving.. about 75% highway.. 60-70 mph and 25% 0-50 stop and go traffic w/ lights.. we'll see how it responds.. i just dont like the Check engine light bein on and crap.. but if you say it wont come on.. then awesome.. did you notice any difference when you unplugged yours brian?
hmm.. i've never unplugged mine.. so it will be interesting to see what happends.. i removed the back 1/2 of my exhaust.. took muffler and rest of tail pipe out.. spools much faster and sounds soo good. i noticed a big difference in turbo lag being less... maybe mine will spool even faster w/ this.. but i dont have gauges yet.. but they are 2nd in line to a spray in bed liner..
There are 50 pages to this thread! Without reading them all waht is the consensus on removing the throttle plate? I've unplugged the EGR and feel better response. Will I feel any improvement to my 04 if I pull the plate?
Thanks,
The throttle plate needs to be thrown in the trash faster than a piece of moldy bread. The Torx screws that hold the plate to the shaft are one size bigger than the instructions in the Tech folder sticky. Remove the screws while the throttle is closed so you don't drop a screw down the intake.
Sorry if this was already discussed, but there was just way to many to read. When unplugging the ERG on your truck, do you have to take out the throttle plate?

No. At least I haven't after 23,000 miles of being unplugged. In addition, I have read that the re-flashes likely have disabled the TP anyway.
I read throught a lot of post an only saw one that had a 2005. Anyone have any experience with unplugging a late build 2005? The one post said he heard some noise, etc.
Looks like I'm going to do it, but just wanted to know the 2005 affects.
