replace O2 sensor or put on a MIL elimanator?

I have a bad O2 sensor on my 96 f150 5.8 and I was thinking about just putting a MIL fooler on instead of another expensive sensor..then I wont have to worry about it going bad and I am thinking about cutting my cats off if I do, do sensor foolers seem to work just as good as having a sensor? thanks ahead of time..

If the sensor is after the cat then a MIL will work. Before the cats then I think you'd have troubles. Those run the engine management system.

Back when I was investigating cutting the cats of my 99 I found out the rear o2 sensor is just there to make sure it detects a different voltage between the rear o2 sensor and the one in the front you should be able to just put the MIL fooler on it and if your going to do that then you could remove your cat if you really wanted to, some people advise against it some think its a good idea, all I know is my truck sounds better with them gone. I'm not sure what your talking about with the MIL but what I did is I bought a sim o2 sensor from casperselectronics.com.

The one after the cat converter further away from the engine.

That doesnt make sence in my mind then bacause the one behind that cat would be the important one doing all the sensing..you would think it would be vice versa..

Not sure how it all works but I just know thats what I was told to do so I did it and its been working fine. From what I know the o2 sensors are to measure how much air/fuel mixture is in the exhaust gases and the cat converters are there for emisions to burn some things in the exhaust that can harm the environment I think its better to detect how much air/fuel mixture is in the exhaust from the engine before the cats so it can better adjust the air/fuel mixture in the engine if it read it after the cat as the primary one then it would be reading it from a point that would not more accuratly reflect the proper air fuel mixter and the rear o2 sensor is just there to dectect a difference in voltage so that the engine knows there are still cats installed. Not sure how well I explained my thoughts its kinda late here but hopefully you get the point but I'm not an expert those are just my thoughts on how it works.

He hit it in the head. That's exactly how it works.

Take the cat's off if you're interested in LOUD sound.

Replace the rear O2 sensor with an O2 Sensor Simulator if you plan on removing your catalytic converter. Put in another O2 sensor if you want to leave them on. It's better to have accurate readings. Course..its also cheaper to go the other route.
