How do you get to the upper mounting bolt and the connection to disconnect the electrical connectors. I tried a open ended and close ended wrench, along with socket wrench with and without extension. There just is not enough room to get in there. Has anyone else removed a starter from a ford explorer V6 automatic and how did you get it out?
I was told it is my starter by the autoparts guy but I want to make sure before I get it out, all I get when I turn the key is a rapid clicking. I have a lot of green buildup on my negative battery that keeps coming back after I clean it. I hit my starter with a hammer the other day to get the truck started so I could get it home. Is this for sure the starter, or does it sound like the cable or battery....
You mentioned corrosion on or in your battery cable. Don't ignore this. The visible green crud can be cleaned up even with something as simple as soda pop, but you may want to check the resistance of the cables themselves. You can actually get corrosion inside the cables that will cause a high resistance to current and make the circuit seem to have a dead battery. You didn't mention the year of your vehicle but on my '93 I replaced the starter only to find that ten year old cables aren't like new any more. Best of luck............mike
