The dust boot is essential for protecting the shaft. Since it is under the vehicle where everything gets kicked up, I would suggest trying to get the boot to fit.
I ordered a stabilizer from http://rough.roughcountry.com/ for $50 and will install as soon as I get it from them! Thanks for the tips on what brand is a true bolt on. I will follow up with install since I am no mechanic and I will try to tackle this myself.
Very easy install, 25 minutes from start to finish. Noticeable difference in steering, not as much as I expected. I havn't been on the highway yet to see how steering reacts at high speed. Overall simple install for a cheap bolt on part ($50). I will take a couple pics of mounted stabilizer to show anyone interested pics with a follow up post. Thanks for all the help!
Has anyone installed a Steering Stabilizer on a Navigator? I have a 2000 Nav 4x4. I called the ToughCountry tech info line and they say they don't make one for this application. I specifically asked if the Expedition model 87343 would fit and they didn't think so! A bit surprising but maybe there is something different in the two suspensions??
I'd really like to add one to my Nav and was hoping that ToughCountry would say the Expedition application would fit it. So if anyone has put one on a Nav and could give me details (brand/model) I'd appreciate it.
I bought a Rancho stabilizer set for my 2002 Navigator 4WD and found that there was no way I can install it where the mounting bracket does not interfere with the anti-sway bar when the wheel is cranked lock-to-lock. It presses on the anti-way bar a bit and it just didn't look good.
For you guys with the Rough Country kits, when you turn the steering wheel lock to lock do any of the brackets touch other suspension components?
I just bought the Rough Country stabilizer and it didn't come with a dust boot. Did anyone else get a boot with theirs?
BTW - I'm quite happy with the steering improvement, especially stability on the highway - I don't jump across 2 lanes everytime I sneeze or hit a bump any more!
peare these stabilizers only for 4wd models? i was hoping the brand new bilsteins that i just put on my 97EB 2wd would clear up the sloppiness. they were a huge improvement for the ride but i still have the lazy steering. i was going to get a Hellwig rear sway bar to see if that would do the trick but i like the price of the sterring stabilizer mod alot better!
