The thing that will inflate GM's Diesel numbers is the Duramax is available all the way up to the 8500 chassis trucks (I-6 configuration for the 6500+). The Duramax I-6 in the 6500/7500/8500 is the cheapest base price trucks in those respective classes, which will boost their numbers.

Silverado was very, very fast around town- Superduty not so good.
Silverado had a great looking interior, with all controls pointed to the driver, instead of flat faced like the Ford.
The ford just feels industrial compared to the Silverado. Almost like driving a tractor sometimes. Less creature comforts.

Which PSD do you have?

Ford things I love are the fact that everyone looks when they hear you pull up. At a stoplight there is nothing better than that sound ****ing off all the local eco friendly people. It is a big a-- truck and everyone knows you mean business. The fact that the truck will last me a long time. I like knowing that it has been around for so long and there are people that just rave about them after 300,000 miles or more. It hauls around everything I need with ease and looks kick a-- doing it. I dont have to park it around the corner at the lumberyard like I did with the Chevy. It was a little odd being the only 1/2ton Chevy next to all the F-250 and F-350's every morning. I even had one buddy of mine offer to pick up all the materials for the day so I wouldn't strain the Chevy. Ha-Ha , Anyways, just my thoughts, I am a very satisfied owner of the Powerstroke and my only regret is that I did not get one sooner. Take care all

Pretty much any engine that is new, will go through a couple years of critizism and improvements, I understand that. But why would Ford put themselves through that again when they already had a great engine??

I agree. The 7.3L was a very remarkable engine in my opionion. I hear some 6.0L PSD owners on hear say that the 7.3L burned to much fuel for its displacement(444CI). I fail to see this myself. I average 18 empty on the highway and about 16 in town. From what Ive seen the new 6.0's are in generall getting about the same mileage as the old 7.3L, in some cases much worse the the 7.3L. It is a large displacemnt disel and it has way more poetnional for mods then the 6.0L Ford could have just opened out the exhaust and opened up the intake and tweaked the computer for an easy 325 (and more) HP. The whole thing is that it was an "old" engine. Ford was using it for almost 20 years and they wanted something new and exciting to put on the market. Not to mention emmissions. It appears to have worked I beleive the new 6.0L's are selling like hotcakes.

This is quite debatable, despite its smaller capacity, I believe the 6.0l has greater potential for tuning. Things like 4v per cylinder etc. It is just the engine hasn't had enough time to mature in the tuning market.
As for fuel consumption, I can't comment, as I know no one with a 6.0l to compare with, but I get around 12-13mpg with a 10000lb trailer.

And can there really be to many PSD's???
Although I do like the fact that it is quite a rare vehicle (in Australia anyway) and I get asked heaps of questions about it.

Glad to hear your a ford man now. I know that must have been ruff mornings with a cheby at the lumber supply. I know all 4 lumber supplys around me, use only fords for company trucks. Plus in the mornings when people are placing orders for delivery the next day, ordering windows and doors, and what not. The ONLY trucks you see are Fords. Let me tell ya, it's LOUD around those places in the morning.

Best of Luck,
Corey

Sorry about that, I will read all the rules next time, dont mean to upset anyone.

I got a 2001 F-250 Superduty Extended cab long bed 7.3 with automatic, and oh yes, Lariat. Currently getting 21mpg empty and 17 loaded. It has 90K on it.
Took it to the Ford dealer and they said it hardly has any wear on it at all. Last guy must have taking good care of it. Have many plans to modify it later.
I had an chance to drive a new 6.0 for about a month and I must say I was very impressed with the power. I got the exact same mileage though. I was told by a very reputable diesel shop that the 6.0 is not holding up very well at all and bent rods are common. Give it a couple of years and maybe they will be better.
