well - if you having anything newer than say, 1989, nothing should need adjustiing, least of all the timing. EFI cars do everything themselves. If you have a carb'd, non-computerized car, and you are going fomr 2000 ft to 8000ft, you are gonna need to adjust the carb. It will be running WAY to rich at that altitude. There should be no need to mess with the timing AT ALL in either circumstance. Less air=less fuel, so the carb/fuel mixture is the only thing that needs adjusting for altitude. EFI engines will do all this automatically, but don't expect to make the power at 8000ft that you do at 2000ft. I belive you loose 1.5lbs air pressure for every 1000ft you climb. You also loose 3 degrees in temp for every 1000ft you go up, so bring that jacket!
thank you 78ford460, my truck is a 19771/2 f250 4x4, and it has a 2150 carb on it. im glad to know i wont have to fuss with that stupid distributor wrench on the road side! i should have no problem leaning it out a bit. and i will be bringing a jacket, half the fun of going is bringing all my cool stuff!
