Why was the FT discontinued? Well, the FE was gone, and the 385s were the newer design, and seem to put out more power for the same gas if I'm understanding some posts here.
The 361 was an FT, NOT a 385.
385 truck engines were 370 & 429. No 460s in there.
These "Lima" engines replaced the FT line & Super Duty line, which was the 401/477/534. They are lighter and less thirsty than those engines, and make as much or more power.
FT's have some serious beef beef too. Heavy block, forged crank (external balance though) fat rods, way heavy pistons and too much combustion chamber in the heads (very low compression). Last forever drinking gas like a drunken sailor.
