Just noticed the OD "OFF" light flickering when turning off the overdrive via the button on the end of the shifter. Anyone seen this before?? If so, what's the fix??
get the codes pulled , you can go to an autoparts store they can do it for free or you can do it by going to this site . it shows how to pull codes using a paperclip www.fordfuelinjection.com
you have the E4od tranny which is electric. when it has a problem that light will blink giving a trouble code. try a search it has been discussed alot in here.
Well I searched the forum and found a couple hits. I will check the light again and see if there is a pattern. FYI, it shifts fine. Doesn't pop out of overdrive. Is there a way to open the end of the shifter?
If the light turns on when you've had the vehicle in overdrive after first start up then start blinking is a overdive clutch problem or maybe worse. you can check by when you first fire it up in the morning or after having sat all day during work fire it up turn of the over drive and then drive around for a while till gets normal operating temp. then turn on overdrive and get up to about 45 50 or so and you will most likely notice that the shifts for each gear are slipping a little or engaging really firm more so then with overdrive off. ( this would be after the od light start to flash) if so get it fixed quick if that doesn't happen then you could just have a vavle getting stuck, just get sytem flushed and filter changed probably get an atf conditioner. I hope this helps had similar issue but when to long before getting an answer from competent mechanic and had trans rebuilt they even had to replace most of the overdrive gearing and other parts got pretty messy but was covered by extended warranty so worked out.
I monitored the overdrive "OFF" light on the way home yesterday and there is absolutely no pattern to its flashing. It is very random. I'm guessing that there are wires that come out of the bottom of the shifter that feed that light and switch. Anybody know for sure??
Probably when you remove the dash assembly you might have pinched of jerked the wries or harness running down the column without removing just check that the wires and such inaround where the dash attaches are slack they shouldn't be too loose but not very often do you find them skin tight so to speak along those areas. you might have even pulled them enough to loosen a connection
That would be the vss sensor on the rear diff. it sits on top . you can try removing it and cleaning it up a bit , or just replace if it looks original
