E40D ?

when i put my truck in 2nd should it take off in 2nd or 1st because mine takes off in 2nd

It will take off in 2nd. It won't up shift, or downshift. It starts out in 2nd and stays there. You will notice the torque converter clutch engage when RPMs reach appropriate levels, and of course assuming the tranny is up to operating temps.
