Hello all,
I finished my motor and trans mounts recently ;now it's time for a driveshaft. I'll be running a 351w & C/6 combo. Do any of you know of a ford car/truck/van doner that would have a 46.5 to 47.5 distance between the cups? Oh ya, the rear is a torino 9"My truck is a 51 F-1.
My favorite pick-n-pull yard is crushing all their rusty cars. Later/Randy
If your yards don't keep a big pile to sort through, it's pretty tough to find the exactly correct shaft length with the right yokes and all. You can have a shaft shortened for a fairly low cost. If the money is real short you can shorten it yourself. Cut the weld with an angle grinder and shorten the shaft with any exhaust pipe chain cutter tool. I've done that and raced them without any problems a few times. Mark it first so the yoke is installed in the same position to lessen the risk of vibration. It's of course better to have it done on a lathe and then re-balanced.
Fenders,
I have access to a lathe but it's 50miles away. I can balance about anything from past experience at work, I just don't have the equipment available anymore(retired). I'm going to look at a 79 Bronco tomorrow for a freebee and I guess I have to work from there. I have shortened driveshafts in the past and got away with it on 4x4 applications. I guess I was hoping to find the ultimate stocker to bolt up?? Thanks, Randy
