I got a 89 BroncoII with 2.9L, manual tranny. The idle is very erratic. I can drive it a block or two and pull up to a stoplight with the clutch depressed, the idle will creep up to 2500 rpm, then after driving a few more miles and pull up to a light, the idle stays around 1100 rpm. I've tried cleaning the throttle body and IAC. Checked for vacuum leaks, etc.. Sometimes it idles high sometimes it doesn't. The more I try to figure it out the more confused I get. Help!!
Just bought my first Bronco II(1986), it was doing the same thing, the problem was two things...Throttle positon senor.. and EGR ..had to clean the EGR port. and replace the EGR ....had lot more problems...have done lot of work on it. and it now purr's. It a dream to drive......
It varies, for the 2.9 it's on the passengers side of the upper intake, looks like a silver film canister with a tail & two wires. Clean ONLY the valve with carb cleaner. While your there clean the ports on the intake, don't push the crap into the intake, a shop vac helps pull it out.
