Fast cranking at startup...

It's an '89 BII, 2.9L, about 120,000+ miles..... just had a bunch of stuff replaced on it, including the distributor. Problem is, it want's to crank fast when trying to start the engine (never did this before). The first thing that comes to mind is that maybe the distributor is off a bit????, but it has been fine since it was put in, then started to act up about a month after it was replaced... it was wore out, big time. However, I've been told that when the starters in BII's start to go, they tend to crank faster than normal........this one has never been replaced, to my knowledge anyway. Also, I'm wondering if the timing chain is needing replaced. I can eliminate that fairly easy I believe. Any thoughts?

Alright, well we eliminated the timing chain as there is only 5-6 degrees of slop. (Anything from 10+...., need to replace timing chain). I'm starting to think that the timing is just off from the distributor replacement, as it cranked normal this time and fired right up. I will check that and report back.

Figured out the problem. The timing had moved. I think the distributor wasn't tightened down good enough. Reset it, everything is back to normal...whatever that is.
