Nope. Mine passed inspection and I don't have a cat or muffler. They are only supposed to do a visual inspection of the exhaust to make sure it's in good shape. I don't think my truck came with a cat anyway.

TX law forbids direct piping from the exhaust manifold to the tailpipe.
Fortunately, your PSD has a TURBO, so you are not straight piped. The turbo counts. So, you don't need a muffler.
As far as the cat, they don't smog diesels in TX . . yet. But in 2006, I think that they are going to start. So you will need a cat then to pass emissions.
I just went for my inspection today here in houston and they looked at NOTHING except that the wipers worked an the horn honked, what a joke! It also was only $12.50 my 97 f-150 costs $65.00 Now this confirms why I love diesels!
Anybody know about Missouri law? Can I eliminate the kitty and muffler and still pass inspection? I know I'm not subject to emissions insp, but still have to have Safety Inspection. The kitty's a little pricey to replace if they are going to require it to pass.
