On my buddies 72 ford f-100 4x4 we are going to convert it to power steering, thanks for the drawings Nod. The shaft coming out of the steering column is really sloppy and I can't find any diagrams of the column, is it supposed to be that loose, or is there supposed to be bushings in there or something? I want to get parts before I tear it apart because he needs it for daily transportation during the summer, so does anyone have a diagram of one or know where to get parts?
BLstangin,
The quick answer to your question is yes, there are bearings at both the top and bottom of the Tube. There are also bearing bushings. The idea of downloading the Dennis Carpenter catalog is a good one. I used the exploded view from the catalog myself last weekend when I adjusted my column so the Rag Joint was flat.
