I have never had a problem with headers, and have never been able to understand all the hooplah. I don't think I would panic if it happened though. There are not many bolt on mods (short of nitrous) that will give you as much power as adding a set of headers. If the thought of a leak somewhere is a concern to you, then it might be better if you just keep what you have. Increasing performance does typically results in an increase in periodic maintenance on every part of the drivetrain.
not to sound dumb but who areor is FPA headers and where do I find them? Also will they allow me to remove my starter on my 74 4x4 crew cab, with out removing the header? THANKS for FEED BACK

You will still have to unbolt the headers at the head and flange to remove the starter with the FPA. you don;t have to remove them, but you have to unbolt them at both ends....hope that helps....
If you dont want to spend a ton of money on FPA's then I would go with some cheap hedmans. They fit just fine but you have to remove them to install your starter, which is a real pain in the ****. Make sure before you install the header to at a minuium wrap the stater in heat shiedling, otherwise to will cook and fail very quickly. Also, be prepared for them to rust like crazy. They will not look so good after a few years.
Actually Ford had several engines with very good case manifolds. The 390GT, 428CJ shorties and the best were the 427 long manifolds. I replaced the long set on my '66 427-8V and gained nothing. Used the 390GT shorties on my '68 F250 when I put athe 390GT motor in. At normal highway speeds and towing speed they worked fine and I never had a leak problem either. So header are not the only option. Besides headers are noisy compared to iron manifolds. Also headers only make a big difference at or near WOT and how much time do you spend there?
