temp gauge problem

allright guys , (and girls) i know it isnt a ford truck , but its ford nonetheless, its a 98 ford Zx2 , and the temp gauge is pegged wide open . is there a way to test the gauge???? i know on my pickup , i could test the oil pressure gauge by grounding the wire to the frame , is there any way to test the gauge for the temperature??? , it uses a typical two wire water temp sensor, like on my truck( see signature)

If it is a two wire sensor you are looking at, I bet you are looking at the wrong sensor. Most sensors for guages are the one-wire type. The one-wire type are the ones you can test by grounding and un-grounding the wire going to the sensor. Most of the time a fuel injected engine will have two temp sensors. The two wire one will be for the computer, and the single wire for the guage. Look around and see if you can find another sensor in the water jacket somewhere. The wire may have come loose.
