I'm curious guys....I just drove all over the better part of Central Kentucky today looking for this mini regulator---tried Auto Zone, NAPA, O'Reilley's, Advanced, the ever dreaded dealer parts department, and finally found one at Carquest- actually went ahead and bought a second one just in case....how much have you generally paid for yours??- Ford dealer wanted to charge me $114.....the ones I found at Carquest were $28/each...granted mine is a '69 with male/female blades, but roughly looks exactly like the pic above...I was just shocked by the price.
The '69 and earlier ones are harder to find but $114?!
I just looked in Mac's catalog and they got it for $16.95, fits '67 - '69. (C6DZ-10804-A)
So is every thing working great now? And was it worth the chase. Plus time and gas. Man you need use the phone more to track down parts on these old trucks. I think most of use guys do the add on trick with better meters or gauges what ever you want to call them. A volt-meter, Oil Psi, water temp
is the main things that are added for ez hang ons under dash. If your gas gauge is still off the floot or sending unit maybe bad. My last sending unit from the dealer looks like an after-market one and could never get it setup to go up pass 3/4 of a tank, because the travel floot arm is to short too get a happy medium. Whem it's on the big E I'm out of gas and thats all that counts until. I every find time to fix it (not)...
Ps some even change out the whole dash cluster for a new look.
my 2 cents
orich
I agree Orich, I wanted to do this via phone, but unfortunately the goof-***** around here could not understand what I was looking for. I eventually just took my old part out and went through their catalogs in the store myself--it was a pain I know, but I'm on vacation this week, and had the time to spare...I'll let you know if this works!
Need Help finding a Voltage Regulator for 1968 F-250
Hi, I have a 1968 F-250. It started by the fuel gauge not working and staying at empty. I replaced the "Float" because I found out it had a hole and gas liquid was getting inside. Once it got replaced it read upto 1/2 full. I took off the instrument panel off and did some trouble shooting found out that even by disconnecting the wire that connects the sending unit the gauge would still show 1/2 full. During the process the regulator burned out, got that electrical burned smell coming out from the voltage regulator and now all the gauges are down. I shopped around, junk yards, car quest,NAPA, local auto parts and I am having a difficult time finding the voltage regulator. Does anyone know where I could find one, or perhaps the part number . THANKS!!!
BB, I think your catalog is a little old or you get a better price than I do. I just ordered one online from Mac,s online and it was 29.95 + 7.50 S&H. Thanks for the part #. I didnt know why my gauges were doing everything described above until I read this thread. My fuel gauge full only reads 5/8 full. Thanks Guy,s I'll let you know how it turns out
while we are on the subject of gauges, do they make a aftermarket cluster for a 72 f100 with the newer gauges?? somebody changed the motor in my truck to a 400 and they changed the whole wiring harness also, they put the entire electronic ingition it also, but my cluster wont plug up anymore...I'm thinking about putting all new gauges, but I dont want the under the dash gauges....any ideas??
1972FordCustom, I have seen those billit aluminum dash inserts that you put over your stock dash. Then I think the pre cut holes fit new autometer gauges. Hope this helps, Charles
1972FordCustom, Ebay item 4621996743, under the big picture just click on the small one to the right and it will show you how it looks with the gauges installed , Good luck Charles
Electronic Piece Connected to the Voltage Regulator Stabilizer
BigBloo - I noticed you have a 1969 ride, mine is a 1968 which has the same instrument panel. I changed the mini voltage regulator but to my luck the elctronic piece that is connected to one of the blades broke in half. Just to Clarify; the mini voltage regulator has a male/female blade on the female side side there is a wire that goes directly connected to the Fuel Gauge. On the Male blade there is an Electronic piece that is connected to the mini voltage regulator and at the other end of the electronic piece its wired to a wire that comes from the harness that has the rest of the wires going to the rest of the instrument panel. Do you or anyone know where to find that part? Or maybe whats the name of that electronic piece... The part seems to have a description and number but its hard to tell... I believe its FoMoCo and has a number of I8A9 52A..... If anyone can help,, I would appreciate it
THANKS!!!

Before anyone replaces their regulator clean all the contact points and test it. Dirty contacts/terminals are the primary cause of malfunctioning gages. Same goes for the second biggest cause of problems, -dirty connections in the rest of the system and bad grounds. If it is one gage it is usually not the voltage regulator.
