hi everybody, I am having problems with my gas guage reading to high, in other words with a full tank it reads off the scale to the rite and when it shows 1/4 it`s dry and I`m walking, also after taking it out of storage in the spring{sleeps all winter}the guage refuses to work at all till it gets at least 2 tank fills to drink.thanks for any help. Ahem, the gage pinning to the right means that you have a faulty instrument voltage regulator or a short in the fuel sender wire (intermittant or resistive or your gage wouldn't read at all).
If you ground the fuel tank sender wire it will peg to the right and burn out fairly quickly...
The IP voltage regulator can develop a high resistance connection to ground on its power supply and it will put out too much voltage causing your gages to read high. This is the most common failure mode but it is easily fixed by cleaning the contacts and adding some dielectric grease.
