2001 explorer sport overheating-help

My temp gauge spiked to Hot this morning on the way to work-I immediately shut her down and checked for leaks-none found.I checked coolant in reservoir and it was alittle low but not much-added alittle water. The temp guage went back down but stayed just alittle bit above the normal spot it is usually in and didnt spike back up again-even when running with the air conditioning on. Could this be a thermostat problem? Where do I start?

I would start with the thermostat. That seems to be the most common cause of overheating/running hot that I see in the forums, and it's what mine needed when I had the problem.

Definately start with replacing the thermostat as it sounds like it stuck during the first warm up. When you replace the thermostat, I recommend using the Ford Motorcraft part. It is a couple of dollars more but much better construction.
