would like to know what they are and what gear ratoi they are. getting realy bad wheel hop in 4x4 in the rear. any hel will be greatly aprectated.
It looks like some axle swapping was done on the truck at some time, or tags got switched somehow. Since you have 2 drastically different stated axle ratios and the bad wheel hopping, I suggest physically checking the actual ratios to find out for sure what you really have.
The surest way to check the front is to pull the front cover and count the ring gear teeth and count the pinion gear teeth and divide the ring gear teeth by the pinion gear teeth and that will give you the actual ratio. The number of ring and pinion gear teeth should also be stamped on the ring gear. If you can see them, then you don't need to count the teeth. If the ring gear has 42 teeth and the pinion has 12 teeth, it is a 3.50 ratio.
On the rear axle, you can't count teeth without removing the 3rd member, so the easiest way to get an idea of the ratio is to jack up the the back end with both wheels off the ground, block front wheels, leave the e-brake off, trans in nuetral, and spin one rear tire 2 full revolutions while counting how many times the driveshaft goes around. How many times it goes around will be the approximate ratio in the axle. This is with an open diff. If you spin one rear tire and the other tire spins the opposite way, it is an open diff. If the other tire spins the same way, you have some kind of limited slip and when you do the ratio test you will only need to spin the tire one time to get the ratio.
If it turns out that you do have a 3.50 ratio in one end and a 3.00 in the other, you will need to change the ratio in one of them to match the other if you intend to sucessfully operate the truck in 4wd.
Hope that helps ya.
