I have an 1990 F150 with a Borg Warner 13-56 transfer case in it. I get a fairly loud clunk when putting in gear or going from drive to reverse or visa versa. I have determined that the play is within the x-fer case. I took the drive shaft loose and removed the tail shaft extension. I then turned the shaft by hand and can feel and hear the play within the case. It seems to work fine. Can this play be a problem? Will I have to replace gears within the case to fix the problem? Or is it possible that bushings or bearings are worn causeing the back lash within the gears?
Hey Bronco basher
Dude have you found out anything Yet????? I also have a 1356 Borgwarner in My 88 F350 Diesel and lost Low range this last weekend... and also have been told Bearings and seals........ have you tore this appart Yet.... have you found an acceptable source for parts Yet....
Already found both of those pages. Hehe, thanks. No, I am still driving it. I'll get unlazy one of these days and pull it. I guess I better hurry up, hunting season is approaching fast. Someone else told me that maybe I have a bad tooth on the planetary gear set on the input/rear output shaft. I'll let you know when I find out for sure.
